To solve the problems researchers from Hewlett-Packard\u2019s laboratories in Bristol, England, developed a computer program based on ant-foraging principles that routes such calls efficiently.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>In the program, hordes of software agents roam through the telecom network and leave bits of information (think of them as \u201cdigital pheromone\u201d) to reinforce paths through uncongested areas.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-66 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.swarm-intelligence.it\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/network-e1402923686107.jpg\" alt=\"network\" width=\"500\" height=\"309\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When a previously swift route becomes congested (<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>red route<\/strong><\/span>), agents that follow it are delayed, so that route takes less bits of information (less pheromone) and it is abandoned.
